About Us
Discover Franz Alpine Retreat - Tranquil Accommodation
Our accommodation is located at Franz Josef amongst some of the most stunning scenery New Zealand has to offer, Glacier Country, in the heart of the Southern Alps.
We are 4.5 kilometres far from town. It’s good to have your own transportation because it will only take you 5 minutes driving from our accommodation to township, still close enough to make use of all the wonderful things Franz Josef has to offer. As we are a rural and tranquil retreat, you can enjoy a real peaceful New Zealand night here.
Room service
If you require any service, please ensure to hang the “make up our room” notice inside the door. Rooms are serviced daily from 10am to 3pm.
Please be aware that our room service will include:
- Bed linen will not be changed on service.
- Change rubbish bags. We endeavour to recycle all paper/cardboard/glass/plastics and tins. Please do not throw them into rubbish bins but leave alongside and we will recycle these.
- We are keen to support NZ’s environmental conservation efforts.
- If you hang the towel on the rail, means “I’ll use them again”.
- If you leave the towel on the floor, means “please change them”.
- Refill the tea coffee section (including tea, coffee, sugar, hot chocolate and plunger coffee sachets).

We will refill the bottle of milk which we have placed prior to your arrival. Please leave the empty bottle with lid on the table.
Iron & Ironing Board
An iron is available to borrow in the reception. Ironing board or clothes track are available in the laundry. Please hang it back once you finish to use.
Book & DVD Library
We have book and DVD library set up in reception. Please feel free to come to reception if you need to borrow any of them. It’s free to borrow.
Breakfast
Continental breakfast is available, $14 per person. Please advise our receptionist before 6pm.
Laundry Service
The laundry is located between the chalet “Tasman” and the chalet “Murchison”.
A charge of $6 is for per load including washing and drying. Laundry powder $2 per sachet is available for sale in the reception. Fees should be paid in the reception. The laundry is available for guest use from 3pm pm to 8:00 pm.
Check out
Check out time is 10 am. Late check-out is only by prior arrangement with reception – late check out fee of $50 per hour will be charged subject to availability.
A key drop box is set outside the reception. Please feel free to drop your room key into the key box upon departure and if you found the reception office is unattended.
Keys
One room key for each room. Please make sure you return your room key upon departure. If key is lost or not returned to us, $35 replacement fee will incur and we will charge to the credit card which you provided on arrival.
